When we co-founded BIG in 2017, we believed in the spirit of an all-German CS:GO team. Unikrn has substantial staff in our Berlin offices, and we wanted a home team for them. We could have sponsored an established team, but we wanted to build something for fans, and we wanted to be instrumental in building the careers of the players we support.
Unikrn helped a team many doubted. We provided the environment, resources and time to become a two-time major legends team. In fact, Unikrn still owns a significant stake of BIG due to our initial investments.
However, we know Daniel had to make a difficult decision on behalf of his players and the organization. We also have a business to run, and could not responsibly meet the terms offered by a competitor sponsor.
In keeping with our proud tradition of helping developing talent and strengthening the CS:GO esports ecosystem, we’re also continuing to focus on United Masters League, a passion project we’re proud to co-operate in partnership with 19 European CS:GO teams. As always, we believe esports needs endemic organizations like ours to support not just the talent at the top, but helping make sure there’s a pathway to success for rising stars.
We know BIG will continue to carry Unikrn in its DNA and its ownership, no matter what name is on their jersey. As major shareholders, we’ll continue to benefit from their successes, and we wish them luck at the major and in the future! As for us, we will be looking for a new team to kick start looking ahead.
